WHERE ARE WE HEADED. THE IMMEDIATE FUTURE OF MARBURG.

Updated: Oct 21, 2023

With the second Marburg Pacing Association AGM coming up , and considerable evidence of discontent, and perhaps factions, amongst the Marburg members, we might do ourselves a favour if intending candidates for committee posts from President down used the "Marburg enthusiasts" Face book page to present "THEIR" policy statement. This would allow voting members to make an informed decision as to which, if any, of the policies, and or people they would support. This would, at least, be a "democratic process" Think hard, it's your Association, and should be responsive to its members wishes, but Not by the back door or ambush.. There are only 10 days to nomination cut off 30/10/2023. Denis 0408 352 478.

Things to consider at this point in time. I will be standing for election on 13/11/2023. Three positions . President. Secretary, and Workouts coordinator. Having been involved in the MPA decision making process for the last 5 years, I have seen the association make a determined effort in this period to lift the profile of harness racing through provision of family oriented free entertainment. I have had to accept that, saddening as it may be, we must put the bulk of our energies in the direction of a more commercial operation, as the costs of the "family "enterprise, have become prohibitive. Going forward, I believe our goal should be to race 57 dates per year. 52 mid-week, and 5 Feature Sundays. The midweeks should provide us with enough income to pay a number of "preferred contractors "to do the day to day tasks involved in race club business functions, and track/venue maintenance. As to the secretary. He or she should oversee a preferred contractor, who would transcribe recorded minutes from meetings, and assist in the reporting of compliance issues to meet RQ deadlines. Given the current doubt as to time frame relating to the Albion Park/Norwell project, I believe it is prudent for the MPA to be thoroughly up to speed in the business of running a race club, with 52 mid-week meetings per year. This would represent insurance for RQ, if the above major project should involve lengthy delays. I believe that the bulk of the 120+ trainers that are based in the Marburg catchment would prefer some relief from racing at Redcliffe 6 days per week. Steve Towns and myself, and using the all-round and economical skills of Glenn Wilkins, are proud of what we have achieved in upgrades to various assets in everyday use. It is up to the members to decide our future. I would ask the members to understand fully, that with election comes heavy responsibility. Denis.
