After several years of rumour and speculation, the Racing Minister, Grace Grace, has announced the replacement site for Albion Park and the long defunct Parklands venue. Both sites have been victims of international sport, with Parklands making way for the Commonwealth Games athletes Village a decade ago, while Albion Park and surrounds are to be re-developed for use at the 2032 Olympics. $8million has been spent so far in acquiring 72 hectares of upper Gold Coast farmland at Norwell at the corner of Norwell and Fischer Roads. No details of the project have been released, other than, it will include a large stabling and training complex, currently unavailable in Queensland.. This particular inclusion is based on the premise that young people wishing to enter the sport, would be unable to bear the mortgage cost involved in setting up individual facilities. The Minister said " This will be a world class facility, hosting more than 200 meetings per year." The Minister added, that Harness racing pumped $185million into the State economy each year, and supported 1300 jobs. There you have the bones of the project, we will keep you up to date, as it is fleshed out. Completion date is late 2025, with racing to commence 2026.
Scoring up at Marburg. We will be taking up some slack, while Norwell comes to fruition.
