GETTING THE BEST OUT OF MARBURG.

While many people may consider Marburg Showground as a nice country harness track, "the Burg", has an equally if not more important function as a training facility. 120 trainers are based within a 30 kilometre radius of the town and while some are large operations with great set-ups, the bulk are smaller operations of five or less horses. Hence the Sunday workouts. The education of a harness horse finishes when you retire him or her, and while the larger stables with staff can simulate those elements of racing which build competitive spirit and tractability in house, the one-out trainer can not. For that, he or she is placed at a significant disadvantage. By providing semi-formal work outs, the MPA is attempting to level the playing field somewhat, giving opportunity for trainers to present a fitter, more tractable horse at the races. Opportunity for aditional schooling is available on request, and at $2 per horse can not be considered expensive. We offer a "slow education", which is exactly that, to assist smaller trainers to relax young horses .

Those currently using the Sunday work outs are beginning to see the benefits of cooperation as this group cruise round the home turn yesterday (02/07/23). Denis. 0408 352 478.
