A LIFETIME MEMORY FOR BREE EVANS AND ARCHILLES.

“BORDER TROTS” 17/10/2022.

It only happens once. Most sporting events revolve around some form or other of success. It can be “team” sport, as in the football codes, where it is possible for a player to have a very high profile, play for many seasons at top level, and never score one point. Yet, without their incredible contribution in defence or ball distribution, the goal or “try” scorers would never have the opportunity to light up the score board. Our sport is closer to the individual concept, where winning is the only yardstick, as the fortunes of the punters who actually fund the sport are decided on which horse’s nose hits the line first, no matter how narrow the margin. More frequently today, there is a team concept of owner, who provides the horse, trainer, who prepares the pacer or trotter (who, after all are the ones who actually win the race) to give its utmost on race night and usually gets little credit, and the driver, who goes round in the colours and gets the accolades.

The “ONCE” happened last week for young Bree Evans, who shared all three human factors of Owning, Training and Driving the prime factor, the pacer Archilles, to win at Albion Park. What a way to start a career. Only Bree knows exactly what she felt at that that vital moment, and only others who have achieved that result, can have a real perception. Good on You Bree, may there be many more such results. They too will be very satisfying, but never like that milestone! (photo of Archilles and Bree, by “Dan Costello “ race photographs).

Due to the great leap forward in racing opportunity for the diagonal gaited horse in Queensland, supporters of the breed are asked to take an opportunity to give the trotter a real “voice”, in in the area of the Sunshine State’s product and racing policy.

The Marburg AGM last Sunday night Saw the current Committee returned unopposed. This can be seen as approval of the team’s efforts for the last twelve months. It can also be seen as the old don’t worry, some one else will do it for me. Don’t be so sure of that. Harness is undeniably going forward in Queensland. It will only continue to do so if there is more contribution from the Clubs, and that contribution starts with membership, and bringing your efforts and ideas to the Club. Don’t believe that YOU can’t achieve anything. Numbers are everything in this game.

More stability and wider distribution of the bucks with Pete McMullen top driver getting home for the prize on six occasions, hotly pursued by Taleah McMullen just one away with five wins and passing 400 lifetime in the process. Another of the same lineage, Trent Dawson, did the driver bit for a healthy three. On the training end of things, Chantal Turpin, and Trent Dawson each landed three winners. Most pleasing, of course Bree Evans and Archilles, and Ideal Tiger, prepared by Jurgen Stroschon ,with Leonard Cain in the sulky. Ipswich Factor 33/53.
